Oak beams

Wood is one of the basic materials used in construction. It is good to get acquainted with its disadvantages and advantages. Oak beams are square wood. Their dimensions are usually: thickness: 200,250 mm, width: 200,225,250 mm, length: 2400, 6000 mm. They are used mainly in the roof construction and as building elements of walls and purlins, formerly used for the construction of bridges and they are also used as railway sleepers.

Oak beams – properties

Oak beams are lumber edged on four sides. It is made only on sawmills. The cross-sectional shape is usually a square or rectangle. They are divided into beams with a cross-section of more than 100 cm2 and smaller beams with a cross-section of 25-100 cm2. The beamed ceiling made of wood is covered with boards, OSB boards. It can also be left uncovered. It is often left uncovered to emphasize the character of a traditional building. Oak beams are used for the construction, which must have a sufficient level of moisture. This should be in the range of 15-8%. However, it must first be dried. Drying should take place in fresh air or artificially in drying chambers.

Oak beams for ceilings

Wooden ceilings with the appropriate weight and insulating layers are half the weight of traditional ceramic or reinforced concrete ceilings. They are used in the Canadian system to create ceilings and walls. The disadvantages of this solution are the flammability of the structure, low resistance to biological corrosion (usually wood requires artificial impregnation) and the tendency to deform despite no change in load. The advantage is that toxic substances are not formed if the material burns.

There are 5 types of wooden ceilings: a bare wooden ceiling, a bare wooden ceiling with a soffit, a wooden ceiling with a blind ceiling, a ceiling with a blind ceiling with slabs on beams built into the column and a double wooden ceiling. The basic building materials are oak beams, which after treatment resist rot, wood-destroying fungi and insects.
