Oak tongue-and-groove boards for gables

Soffits are an aesthetic way how to finish the roof from eaves. Oak TG boards are most often used for gables, which give the house an interesting look. Gutters cannot be built in, but when the trusses are thin and not very aesthetic or the underside of the roofing is visible, it is better to close the space between the wall of the building and the gutter. It will also protect against bird nesting. The ceiling can be installed in two ways: by connecting its elements directly to the rafters or perpendicular to the wall of the house.

Wooden soffits for gable walls

This is the oldest way how to secure gambles. Oak boards are also custom made. Boards 17-22 mm thick of any width or length (preferably not longer than 6m) can have various edges: straight or profiled with a tongue, groove or notch. When they are straight and blunt, it is not necessary to make ventilation holes – gaps are created between boards. However, if they are stacked or have profiled edges, do not forget to leave ventilation holes and cover them with a net.

Each of the soffit boards is attached in two places – at the beginning and at the end. If the oak boards are too long, the distance between nails must not exceed 80 – 100 cm.

Wood is a natural material which unfortunately needs maintenance. Oak wood used for soffits must be well dried and impregnated. Before application, it is advisable to paint or varnish boards by waterproofing agents. Such a step cannot stop the process of natural aging of the wood. Therefore, coatings should be repeated every five years.

Wooden ceilings are produced quite often in traditional and historic houses as well as in wooden houses. They are characterized by very good strength parameters and are an elegant and aesthetic way of finishing the roof.
