Oak semi-edged lumber

Lumber is a building material that is obtained by longitudinal cutting of logs. It usually has at least two opposite parallel surface and its thickness is 10 cm. They are divided into board, edged and semi-edged lumber. For production, we use quality oak wood exclusively from Czech and Slovak forests.

Types of lumber

Edged lumber

In the cross-section, it usually has right-angle and the width is less than twice the thickness. They are divided into square beams of different sizes, thin wooden beams of different thickness, mouldings and laths.

Boards lumber

For this one, its width is at least twice the thickness. They are divided into boards, planks and top cut slabs and top cut waste.

Semi-edged lumber

Oak semi-edged lumber has two parallel surfaces and two rounded sides. They include beams and cants of different thickness. Different names are prisms or mantel beams. Live edge cants are up to 100 mm thick and beams or mantels are thicker than 100 mm.

How to store semi-edged lumber

The construction and carpentry lumber must be stored correctly. Oak semi-edged lumber has very simple storage principles. One of the possible options is that you purchase or extract logs from your own resources and have it processed at the saw mill.

The resulting oak semi-edged timber must be allowed to dry properly before use. If you choose the method of natural drying, you must make sure that the wood is stored correctly. The same rules apply even if you buy oak semi-edged lumber that is not properly dried. You also need to have an adequate storage if you buy lumber in stock in advance, for example because of the favourable selling price. Moisture and water have a major impact on the quality of wood, so both edged and un-edged lumber must be stored in such a way that it is not in direct contact with the soil and is not exposed to water. Place the first layer on vertical base of beams, at least 30 cm above the ground.
