Oak piers
There are hardly more interesting structures in landscape than oak piers. These are platforms which you place where it is necessary to facilitate access to the water, such as ponds in the garden.
Not only do they look nice and serve as an interesting decoration in private gardens and public parks, but they can also be used as a seating place or for sunbathing or tying a boat or any other water transport or sport vehicle.
Custom-made oak piers
Nothing looks more impressive than an oak pier on water areas. You can spot it on ponds, dam edges as well as on natural reservoirs. We manufacture oak piers in any dimensions. A high quality oak wood is used as the most resistant material to weather conditions, temperature changes as well as to drought and humidity alternation out of the Czech woods. Oak piers can vary in size and shape.
Oak piers and their construction
The main structure element of oak piers are wooden frames to which the boards are attached. To make the frame stronger, it is advisable to combine the spokes with an overlap. Under each connection, the support should rest on firmly anchored columns attached on concrete feet (they can be manufactured on the site or purchased separately). The platform constructions must not come in contact with the ground because it supports the wood decomposition. Wooden posts should not be attached straight to concrete but they should be built in metal stands or flat bars. These elements should be built in the base so it enables a vertical assembly of stands, 5-7 centimetres above ground. After assembling posts the beams forming the frame are placed on them and are fastened with special steel brackets with reinforcement. In the frame corners, the beams are connected by steel connecting angles.
Laying a foil or geotextile under oak piers and cover them with gravel prevents the plants from growing through boards which are then difficult to get rid of.
