Oak terraces

Wooden terraces excel in relatively easy implementation. However, it is important to choose the right type of wood and carefully assemble it. We can get a durable, efficient terrace, which you can walk barefoot even on colder days. Popular are oak terraces, which offer a much longer service life compared to spruce and pine.

Oak terraces and their benefits

Since oak terraces are located outside and will be exposed to sunlight, humidity, snow, changing temperatures, it is advisable to protect them, for example, treat them with oil. Without this treatment they will turn grey over time. The advantage of the oak terrace is not only its perfect look, but also its resistance to weather conditions. The wood is very warm and pleasant to the touch, so you can walk on it barefoot even in summer.

Installation of oak terrace

Installation of a wooden oak terrace is possible on crushed stone. You must first place the adjustable brackets every 50 cm, so that the surface of the terrace maintains the correct slope and the height adapted to the height of the door leading to the terrace. Brackets closest to the house should be placed so that their upper edge is no further than 4-5 cm from the wall. Then connect the beams to them at a distance of 50 cm – always parallel to the building. Each of them should be screwed on two sides. The boards are laid on beams, fixed with screws, boards or glue. The method should be adapted to the location of the oak terrace with respect to the world. Regardless of the method chosen, a gap of 5-10 mm must be left between the boards for the wood to work.

The longer the rainwater stays on the boards and stays moist, the better for the condition of the wood. Therefore, the boards should be laid with a drop not exceeding 2 percent. The biggest threat to wooden floors is strong sunlight. In dried wood, the fibres twist, which leads to deformation of the elements.
