Oak stringers

A number of construction can be built from wood. Among the most popular are oak bridges. Every bridge consist of a supporting construction and a deck. The supporting construction includes: bridge decks, stiffeners, bearings and expansion joints. The bridge deck consists of cross beams and oak stringers. 

The bridge deck is a component of the supporting construction which has the purpose to transfer the load effects from the bridge construction to its main supporting construction. 

Until the World War II, common lumber was used for the construction of the bridge and its individual parts. After the World War II, glued wood is used for the construction of footbridges and bridges. 

Oak stringers in the bridge construction 

The bridge superstructure varies according to the type of traffic on the bridge. The surface of the deck for bridges with roads and rail transport is different. In the case of railways, oak side stringers carry the bridge superstructure, which is formed by bridge decks and rails, which are provided with fasteners. The axial distance of the longitudinal stringers is 1.8 m. The stringers are connected in the transverse direction by reinforcement, which contributes to the increase of horizontal rigidity.

The road superstructure is a roadway that must have the same insulating characteristics as a roadway that is located outside the bridge. It must protect the bridge deck from weather and traffic effects. 

Oak wooden bridges 

Wooden bridges have the advantage of a simple construction in a case of floods, storms or erosions of individual parts due to age. We custom-make both oak stringers and bridge decks, bridge timber or even whole bridges. The wooden bridges are beautiful and the oak wood gives them a perfect look. 

On our country, you can find several bridges that have been standing for hundreds of years. Over time, they were reconstructed and individual parts, both bridge decks and bridge structures or oak stringers were replaced. Some bridges can be crossed by car after the reconstruction, others are for pedestrians only.
