Oak lumber – division
Oak lumber is a sawmill product as well as untreated lumber. These are products formed by cutting logs parallel to the longitudinal axis of the log, which have at least two sides parallel. Barked slabs, rounded live-edged top cuts, cuttings, etc. are created as by-products.
According to the shape of the cross-section and with regard to the ratio of thickness to its width, oak lumber is:
- board lumber
- edged lumber
- semi-edged lumber
- laths and mouldings
Board timber is a piece of wood, with a width greater than twice their thickness. They are made in the following thicknesses:
- Boards – 15 to 38 mm, boards shorter than 2 m are called cuts
- Planks – 40 to 100 mm
- Live-edged boards – i.e. side pieces of board lumber with untreated edges with thicknesses of 18 to 24 mm side
- Top cuts – i.e. marginal lumber with a thicknesses of 18-24 mm which has a left surface rounded or only some parts touched by a sawmill
Edged lumber has a rectangular cross-section and according to the cross-sectional area it is divided into:
- Square beams – area above 100 cm2
- Scantlings – area = 25-100 cm2
Then it is divided into squared up and with live edges.
Semi-edged lumber is double-sided cut lumber which has rounded sides. According to its thickness it is divided into:
- Beams with a thickness smaller than or equal to 100 mm and a width larger than or equal to 500 mm
- Beams of with thickness larger than or equal to 10 m and a width larger than or equal to ⅔ of thickness
Laths and mouldings are edged oak lumber of a transverse cross-section that are according to the S are divided into:
- Laths – area is equal to 10 to 25 cm2
- Bars – area is smaller or equal to 10 cm2
Oak lumber is also divided according to quality, strength and moisture.
