Oak beams – railway constructions
Building timber, which is used, for example, for railway constructions in the form of sleepers, also includes oak beams. Beams are lumber edged on four sides carved from the centre of tree logs. Oak wood is used for their production, which we buy from domestic forests.
Oak beams as railway sleepers
The first sleepers in our country were in the form of stone blocks. Later, railway sleepers began to be used in the form of longitudinal beams, which continuously supported the rail, or in the form of transverse sleepers, which are still used today. Oak beams in the form of sleepers are a support for the rails, they are placed in a gravel bed.
Oak beams in a form of railway sleepers
Wooden beams used as railway sleepers are most often made of hard oak wood. These oak beams are impregnated. The quality of the sleeper, the wood used, the method of impregnation, the year and the place of production are marked on the sleeper nail. Oak beams on sleepers are delivered not pre-drilled. The finished sleepers are drilled when laying the tracks.
Oak beams are cut on four sides or on two sides which means that they may be rounded on one side given by the shape of the log. Switch sleepers are cut on four sides, with various lengths up to 4700 mm.
We make custom oak beams. A wide range of elements made of this wood will allow you to choose exactly according to your needs.
