Oak sluice gates
The sluice gate is a very simple barrier element which serves to stop and regulate the flow of the water. In the event of flood, it can serve as a safety spillway with water overflowing its edge. A partially raised oak sluice gate above the tank level leads to flow regulation. The water flow itself is then defined by the size of the created hole, height of the surface and by the speed it flows in front of and behind the sluice.
Oak sluice gates construction
Oak sluice gates have been used as a barrier since forever. It is mostly used for open converters and it consists of a wooden board which is moved by a lifting mechanism that is placed vertically in the side guide. This mechanism can be placed directly above the sluice gate on a crossbar called a pouch. It is less often placed behind the sluice plate. Lifting can be manual or by means of a mechanism supplemented by a gearbox and an electric motor. Oak sluice gates are installed in a concrete trough so that its guide is recessed in the wall and the board can be completely lifted to the surface. As a result, it does not put up any resistance to the flowing water.
The sluice gate must be constructed to withstand even strong water pressure. We manufacture custom oak sluices. Sluice gates are used in three different functions.
The protective sluice gate is located in the weir sampling object behind the coarse screens, at the entrance to the drive or piping. These oak sluice gates are designed to regulate the water flow or to make a complete closure during floods or drive repairs.
Fountain sluice gate – is placed behind fine screens and it closes the entrance to the engine.
Reactive sluice gate – is located at the end of the drive and it is used to flush out the settled dirt, to completely empty the drive and it can also have a function of a reactive overflow.
Furthermore, oak sluice gates are used as drain gates for water tanks, overflow sluice gates, flushing sluice gates for Tyrolean weirs or as regulating sluice gates of water wheels.
